Lacquer offers a flawless finish, intense color, and nearly infinite color freedom. The lacquering process involves applying six thin layers of lacquer to a metal base plate one after the other. The color or shade is then given all of its depth and luster by applying a colorless varnish. The dial is prepared for pad printing and applique application after the varnish has dried and its surface has been polished to bring out the color.

The Oyster bezel’s fluting originally served a practical purpose, allowing the bezel to be screwed into the watch case and assisting in ensuring the watch’s waterproofness.
